Here are some photos from week two of the Red Lion’s refurbishment. We promised to keep you updated and we will. It looks a mess, it is a building site, but so many really exciting things are happening. The work on the butchers where we have exposed the old ceiling and beautiful big fireplace is particulary pleasing. From a building that was literally about to fall down we are going to create a really stunning butchers. We hope you will like it – and use it!

Despite the snow Sean Constable, the builder, and his team have been really cracking on and doing some lovely work. We are working very closely with the Historic Building Officer as many parts of the building are very old and rather special. Note how we took down the gable end of the butchers literally brick by brick.

We are also very excited about the restaurant where we are exposing and then repointing with lime the Old Stone wall. The new roof is now on with the Sky Lights and looks great.

In the Pub itself we have done loads work including opening the bar up to the view down the village, creating the new opening to the garden and restaurant where the old ladies loo was, getting rid of all the old awkwardly positioned fake pillars by putting in new rsjs, and so it goes on….All very exciting!

The Old rather awkard entrance is gone to be replaced (hopefully!) with something that works a better

Here you can see the wall in bar has gone opening up the view to the village and giving a lot more light. We are also putting in loads of insulation which helps save energy, keep the Pub cosy and will soak up sound to make it less noisy on busy nights!

We have managed (with some pretty significant engineering) to get rid of all those annoying (and fake) pillars in the bar and just now have this one. Oh and as you see old bar has gone.

Gorgeous exposed roof of the Butchers which we are restoring. Going to be a lovely space to buy some meat!

We did it the hard way, brick by brick to save them all……

Ready for insulation in the butchers

Garden has a way to go…

Work going on iside the Barn which will become the restaurant. Look at the lovely stone wall we have uncovered and will restore

The new ‘opening’to the right of the fireplace. You can just see the timber frame and stones we have saved from what is a very old wall.
