The Red Lion in Brill is a community pub that both sources and supplies good food and drink from the local area, as well as being here to support and serve the community.
We brought the pub off Greene King on 26th May and after a really successful Autumn and Winter season we are now, as of January 2nd 2012, now closed for refurbishment!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their continued support and encouragement for the future success of the Red Lion.
Our vision for The Red Lion is for it to get back to being a real village Pub, by which we mean a centre for the village and local area.
We’re not going to turn into a gastro Pub but it will be a Pub where you can eat fantastic, simple, delicious local food.
Over the last 8 years David Howden and John Wilkins have been building up a herd of English Longhorn cattle as well as rare breed pigs and we intent to supplement these with meat from local farms and markets. Indeed, we also plan to develop the old shop into a butchers where you can buy the very meat you can eat in the Pub as well as creating a delicatessen for local produce. We also hope in time to open up the court yard, so at weekends we can have some tables where those who wish can set up a stall to sell their own produce. We like the idea of bringing back a weekly market to Brill – and we’ve already started by producing the lunches for Brill school!
With the Red Lion now being a free house we can buy our beer from where we want and have started by choosing to support Vale Brewery, among others, both because they are local and because their beer is good. If you have a preference for another beer let us know and we may get it to see if others share your taste!
We will post regular updates on our progress, so keep checking the website for the latest news.
